Discover the history, culture and people of Saddleworth, the Peak District and South Pennines on our regular guided Discovery Walks . Each walk is led by Chris Maylor, an experienced guide and author of the locally acclaimed Saddleworth Discovery Walks and Oldham Discovery Walks guidebooks.

We also offer an exciting calendar of guided day walks throughout the beautiful and dramatic landscapes of the Peak District and South Pennines. With a wealth of interesting routes available, we can cater for all fitness levels and abilities and can even offer bespoke walks to those wanting to explore a particular area or engage in a challenging outing.

Towpaths and Pack Horse Trails across the Pennines

Discover ancient routeways across the Pennines, from the Roman occupation of Britain, through the Middle Ages and the Industrial Revolution to modern times.
After a short walk along the Huddersfield Narrow Canal, this group walk makes the long ascent of the historic Boat Lane, before following several ancient trading routes across the great Pennine divide and through the historic, picturesque, village of Dobcross.
Start: Limekiln Cafe, Brownhill Visitor Centre, Wool Road, Dobcross.

Meet: 10:15am for an 10:30 start.
Duration: Approximately 4 to 5 hours
As always the walks are free of charge. Donations welcome to Oldham Mountain Rescue Team.
Please bring suitable outdoor clothing, footwear and a packed lunch.
